Poultry Housing Spreadsheets
1. Tunnel Fan Comparison Spreadsheet 2011
-
Download Spreadsheet
-

This spreadsheet allows the user to compare different tunnel fans: the number required, air speed produced, and yearly electricity usage.
-
Input:
- house length
- house width
- open ceiling/dropped ceiling
- electricity rate
- tunnel fan operating hours
- Air moving capacities of fans you want to compare (@ static pressure of 0.05" - 0.20")
- Energy efficiency rating of fans you want to compare (@ static pressure of 0.05" & 0.10")
- You can also input the number of each type of tunnel fan to produce the air speed you desire.
-
Outputs:
- Air speed in the house
- Number of each type of fan inputted required
- Air flow ratio of fan inputted
- Yearly power usage for each of the fans inputted
- Windchill effect produced
- 6" pad area required
- Maximum pad water usage (90 F, 50% Rh and 100 F, 20% Rh)
-
NEW for 2011 - Number of tunnel fans required are based of the expectant static pressure at the desired air speed
- 500 ft/min = 0.10"
- 600 ft/min = 0.15"
- Over 725 ft/min = 0.20.
-
NEW for 2011 - Pad area is based of the total tunnel fan capacity based on air moving capacity of hte fans 0.05" below the expected static pressure (provides a small saftey factor
2. Tunnel House Heat Gain Analysis Spreadsheet
-
Download spreadsheet

-
Input:
- house dimensions
- ceiling type (open/dropped)
- side wall type (curtain/solid)
- wall and ceiling R-values
- bird size, number, and heat production (Btu's/hr per lb)
- lighting system details
- maximum expected outside temperature
- maximum desired inside temperature (typically 85 F)
-
Outputs:
- Total heat gain through each building surface.
- Total heat gain due to the birds.
- Breakdown in percentages of various heat sources in the house
- Minimum tunnel fan capacity required to maintain 5 F differential betwen the pads and the fans
- cfm per square foot
- cfm per bird
- Average air velocity obtained with minimum recommended tunnel fan capacity.
- The spreadsheet determines the minimum amount of tunnel fan capacity required to maintain at most a 5 F temperautre difference between the inlet and fan ends of the house. Additional fans may be required to increase the velocity to produce sufficient bird cooling.
3. Pullet House Fan/Light Trap Comparison Worksheet
-
↓ Download spreadsheet - This excel spreadsheet allows the user to determine how the air moving capacity of their exhaust fans in tunnel ventilated houses will be affected by the addition of different types and sizes of light traps.
-
Input:
- Number of fans
- Air moving capacity (cfm) of the fan you want to examine @ static pressures from 0.00" to 0.25"
- Type and amount of tunnel inlet light trap
- Type and amount of tunnel fan light trap
-
Output:
- Total static pressure tunnel fans will be working against
- Amount of air moved by each tunnel fan.
- With crossectional area of the house, air moved by each fan, and the number of fans user can calculate the air speed in the tunnel house.
4. Poultry House Lighting Comparision
-
↓ Download spreadsheet - This spreadsheet allows the user to determine power savings by switching from incandent to fluorescent fixtures.
