Tunnel Fan Comparison Spreadsheet 2014 – Metric

  • This spreadsheet allows the user to compare different tunnel fans: the number required, air speed produced, and yearly electricity usage.

  • Input:

    • House length (m)

    • House width (m)

    • Open ceiling/dropped ceiling

    • Electricity rate

    • Minimum tunnel fan capacity (typically between 9 and 11 cfm/ft2)

    • Estimated tunnel fan operating hours

    • Air moving capacities... of fans you want to compare (@ static pressure of 0.05" - 0.20")

    • Energy efficiency rating of fans you want to compare (@ static pressure of 0.10")

    • Desired tunnel velocity (ft/min)

    • Initial price of fan

  • Outputs:

    • Air speed in the house (m/sec and ft/min)

    • Number of each type of fan inputted required

    • Air moving capcity of each fan at expected static pressure (cfm/cmh)

    • Total air moving capacity (cfm/cmh)

    • Air flow ratio of fan inputted

    • Yearly power usage for each of the fans inputted

    • Theoretical windchill effect produced (F/C)

    • Number of tunnel fans required are based of the expectant static pressure at the desired air speed

      • 500 ft/min/2.5 m/sec = 0.10"

      • 600 ft/min/3 m/sec = 0.15"

      • Over 725 ft/min/3.63 m/sec = 0.20.

    • 5 and 10 year operating costs
