Excel Spreadsheets

This spreadsheet allows the user to determine power savings by switching from incandent to fluorescent fixtures.

To use the spreadsheet simply input basic information about the house in question (i.e., house and pad dimensions), the number of tunnel fans, the theoretical tunnel air moving capacity of the fans at various static pressures (available from BESS Laboratory websitewww.bess.uiuc.edu), and the general condition of the house’s evaporative cooling pads (1 to 5 scale) and fans (1 to 4

  • This excel spreadsheet allows the user to determine how the amount and type of fan/inlet light traps affect the air moving capacity of the exhaust fans and therefore air speed in a light-controlled, tunnel ventilated pullet house.  This replaces V4.2 which could produce inaccurate results if the General Shelters light trap was used.
  • Input:

    • Number of fans
    • Air moving capacity (cfm) of  the fan you want to examine @ static pressures from 0.00" to 0.25" 
    • Fan condition
    • Type and amount of tunnel inlet light trap
  • Input:

    • house dimensions
    • ceiling type (open/dropped)
    • side wall type (curtain/solid)
    • wall and ceiling R-values
    • bird size, number, and heat production (Watts per kg)
    • lighting system details
    • maximum expected outside temperature
    • maximum desired inside temperature (typically 30 C)
  • Outputs:

    • Total heat gain through each building surface as well as the birds. - graphic.

This spreadsheet allows the user to determine the amount of leakage area a poultry house has by conducting a static pressure test.  A static pressure test consists of closing all the openings in a poultry house and then turning on one fan (typically that has an air moving capacity of roughly 0.75 to 1.25 cfm per square foot of floor space) and measuring the resultant level of static pressure achieved.

Inputs:

This spreadsheet enables to user to evaluate how standard 4" and 6" evaporative cooling systems will perform under different outside conditions.
